The Billy Ross Skinner - LRTA Mixed Handicap Doubles Invitational
LRTA Mixed Doubles Invitational: The Billy Ross Skinner Invitational Doubles
Hatfield once again hosted the Billy Ross Skinner Invitational Mixed Doubles over the weekend and as always it was a weekend of incredibly close matches and great tennis.
The tournament is an invitational tournament where the best 16 available lady players team up with men of an equivalent standard to give every pair an equal chance of winning.
This year was one of the best standards in recent memory and it was brilliant to see 2 of the top lady players in the world do battle in the final with Tara Lumley and her partner Owen Saunders, finally prevailing over Saskia Bollerman and her partner Marek Stefanowicz 4/6 6/1 6/3 in a fantastic game of tennis!
Both ladies have mid to low 20s handicaps and comfortably the best techniques on show and it led to some brilliant rallies where both their partners more than held their end up.
It was the culmination of a brilliant weekend's tennis where nearly every match ebbed and flowed and it was incredibly hard to choose a winner.
Huge thanks to Clare Bucknell and Paul Bollerman for their organisation of the tournament for the first time, proving to be brilliantly adept at sorting the pairings which is the most important part of making this tournament what it is!
Big thanks too to Sarah Sullivan and Liz Fisher who do a fantastic job of catering this event every year, which makes the event so much more than it otherwise would be and making sure all players involved has such a great experience, we are very lucky to have them here at Hatfield! Streaming of the final can be found on our Youtube Channel.
